Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Dallas, Texas was founded in 1841 as a trading post along the Trinity River. The city’s early economy revolved around farming, ranching, and trading. In 1873, the arrival of the railroad sparked a period of rapid growth, attracting new industries and residents to the area. During the early 20th century, Dallas emerged as a major banking and financial center, drawing businesses from across the country. The discovery of oil in nearby East Texas in the 1930s further fueled the city’s economic growth and solidified its position as a leading commercial hub in the region. In the 1960s, Dallas gained international attention as the site of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Despite this tragic event, the city continued to thrive and expand, becoming a cultural and economic powerhouse in the South. Today, Dallas is known for its diverse economy, vibrant arts scene, and iconic skyline dominated by towering skyscrapers. The city remains a vibrant and dynamic metropolis, attracting visitors and residents alike with its blend of history, culture, and modern amenities.

The top 10 restaurants:
Sushi | Bar
Location: 2111 Jackson St, Dallas, TX 75201
This spot in the East Quarter offers a 17-course omakase experience in a pair of subterranean rooms that hold only 12 guests. It’s an intimate eating experience, obviously, with fish flown in daily from Japan, Australia, and California. A meal costs $165 per person, with curated sake and wine pairings available at an additional cost. A $50 deposit per person is required with a reservation.
Mābo
Location: 6109 Berkshire Lane, Dallas, Texas 75225
If the closure of Teppo on Lower Greenville left a hole in your heart, great news — its owner has opened a new restaurant in the Park Cities. While it is, yes, more omakase, with a $200 per person price tag, what diners will get is a bit different than every other omakase in Dallas. This includes skewers of meats and four or five a la carte dishes crafted from seasonal ingredients. Expect grilled chicken, duck, wagyu, mushrooms, and more.
The Landmark Prime Rib
Location: Victory Park
Prime rib is the centerpiece of the menu at The Landmark Prime Rib.
Trades Delicatessen
Location: 312 West 7th Street, Dallas, Texas 75208
As the Oddfellows empire expands, the owners of that neighborhood’s great all-day cafe’s next endeavor is a cute sandwich shop right next door. It has an array of offerings, including a French dip, meatball, mushroom melt, turkey club, and tuna and egg salads. There are also soups, desserts, and bagels.
Sanjha Chulha
Location: 5250 North O’connor Boulevard, Irving, Texas 75039
Las Colinas adds a fine dining Indian restaurant with a menu that aims to represent every region of the country — no small feat. Dine on shakargandi amrak chaat (a Delhi street food) or bharwan paneer tikka. It also covers the history of India, reaching back thousands of years — for example, the scallops recheado, which is a take on the Goan dish with roots dating back to the time when the state was under Portuguese rule.
The Taco Stand
Location: 3227 Mckinney Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75204
We’ve got loads of tacos in Texas, but this spot with its Tijuana-style tacos is a bit different. This family-run business from La Jolla, CA opened its first stand in Texas with this Uptown location. Pop by for pastor, pescado, and carne asada tacos, burritos, volcans, and quesadillas, all served on handmade corn tortillas.
