Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Nestled in the Willamette Valley, Corvallis, Oregon is a city steeped in history and tradition. Founded in 1845, the city grew rapidly as a hub for agriculture and timber industries. Originally named Marysville after early settler Mary Lloyd, the city was later renamed Corvallis in 1853, a word meaning “heart of the valley” in Latin. Corvallis became home to Oregon Agricultural College (now Oregon State University) in 1868, solidifying its reputation as a center for education and research. The city played a crucial role in the state’s development, serving as a key transportation and trade center on the Willamette River. Today, Corvallis is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, outdoor recreational opportunities, and commitment to sustainability. The city’s historic downtown district features charming shops, restaurants, and galleries, while nearby natural attractions like Marys Peak and the Willamette River provide endless opportunities for adventure. Corvallis continues to be a thriving community that honors its past while embracing the future.
