Corpus Christi, Texas, is a city with a rich and diverse history dating back to the early 16th century when Spanish explorer Alonso Alvarez de Pineda first discovered the area. The city’s name, which means “Body of Christ” in Latin, was given by Spanish explorer Diego Ortiz Parrilla in 1749.
