Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Columbus, Georgia was founded in 1828 as a trading post along the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Originally known as Coweta Falls, the city was named after Christopher Columbus and quickly grew into a major center for cotton production and trade. During the Civil War, Columbus became a strategic location for the Confederacy due to its railroad connections and proximity to key waterways. The city suffered heavy damage during the conflict, but was eventually rebuilt and became a hub for manufacturing and industry in the post-war years. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Columbus flourished as a textile and lumber center, attracting immigrants and workers from across the country. The city continued to grow and diversify its economy, becoming known for its vibrant arts scene, historic architecture, and thriving riverfront district. Today, Columbus is a thriving metropolitan area with a rich history and culture, attracting visitors and residents alike with its blend of Southern hospitality, modern amenities, and natural beauty.
