Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

College Station, Texas was founded in 1860 as a small agricultural community known as “College.” The city’s name was derived from the nearby Texas A&M College, which was established in 1876 as the state’s first public institution of higher education. Over the years, the city grew and developed alongside the university, becoming officially incorporated as College Station in 1938. During World War II, College Station saw a significant increase in population as the university became a training center for the military. After the war, the city continued to expand, attracting new residents and businesses with its thriving economy and strong sense of community. Today, College Station is a vibrant and diverse city known for its educational opportunities, cultural attractions, and outdoor recreational activities. The city remains deeply connected to its roots as a college town, with Texas A&M University playing a central role in shaping its identity and growth.
