Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Cleveland, Ohio was founded in 1796 by General Moses Cleaveland, after whom the city was named. It quickly became a major hub for transportation and industry due to its location on the shores of Lake Erie. The city grew rapidly during the 19th century, attracting immigrants from Europe and African Americans from the South. By the early 20th century, Cleveland had become a major manufacturing center, particularly for steel production and automotive manufacturing. The city experienced economic prosperity and population growth during this time, becoming known for its cultural institutions, such as the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Cleveland Orchestra. However, like many other Rust Belt cities, Cleveland faced economic decline in the late 20th century as its manufacturing base dwindled. In recent years, the city has made efforts to diversify its economy and revitalize its downtown area, with the development of attractions such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the revitalization of the Flats entertainment district. Today, Cleveland is known for its sports teams, healthcare industry, and vibrant arts scene.
