Welcome to the Newto News for April of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Clemson, South Carolina was founded in 1889 by Thomas Green Clemson, an American statesman and diplomat. Originally known as Calhoun, the city was renamed in 1943 in honor of its founder. Clemson grew rapidly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries due to the establishment of Clemson University in 1889. The university quickly became a hub for education, research, and innovation in the region, attracting students and faculty from all over the country. During the mid-20th century, Clemson played a crucial role in the Civil Rights Movement. In 1963, Harvey Gantt became the first African American student to enroll at Clemson University, marking a significant milestone in the fight for equality. Today, Clemson is a thriving city with a strong economy based on education, agriculture, and technology. It is also known for its vibrant cultural scene, outdoor recreational opportunities, and strong sense of community.
