Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Clearwater, Florida was originally inhabited by the Tocobaga tribe of Native Americans before Spanish explorers arrived in the 16th century. The area was colonized by the Spanish and later became a part of the United States in 1821 as Florida was acquired from Spain. In the late 19th century, Clearwater grew as a thriving citrus farming community and a popular destination for tourists and winter residents. The town experienced rapid growth in the 20th century, transforming into a bustling city with a strong economy based on tourism, healthcare, and technology. Clearwater gained international attention in the 1970s when the Church of Scientology established its spiritual headquarters in the city. The city continues to draw visitors with its beautiful beaches, vibrant downtown area, and numerous cultural attractions. Today, Clearwater is known for its stunning waterfront views, water sports, and festivals, making it a popular destination for tourists and a desirable place to live for its residents.
