Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Clearwater, Florida was first settled by Native American tribes, including the Tocobaga and Calusa, who thrived in the area for centuries before the arrival of Spanish explorers in the 16th century. The Spanish named the area “Claro Agua” for its crystal clear waters. In the 19th century, Clearwater became a popular destination for wealthy Northerners seeking refuge from colder climates. The city experienced significant growth with the arrival of the railroad in the late 1800s, attracting new residents and businesses to the area. During World War II, Clearwater became an important training ground for military pilots and played a key role in the war effort. The post-war era brought further growth and development to the city, with the construction of hotels, businesses, and tourist attractions. Today, Clearwater is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant downtown area, and strong tourism industry. It continues to attract visitors from around the world who come to enjoy its sunny weather and outdoor activities.
