Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Cincinnati, Ohio was founded in 1788 by a group of settlers led by Matthias Denman, Robert Patterson, and Israel Ludlow. The city was originally named Losantiville, but was later changed to Cincinnati in honor of the Society of the Cincinnati, a group of Revolutionary War officers. Throughout the 19th century, Cincinnati grew rapidly due to its strategic location on the Ohio River, making it a key transportation hub for the Midwest. The city became known for its booming meatpacking industry, earning it the nickname “Porkopolis.” Cincinnati was also a major center for abolitionist activity and was an important stop on the Underground Railroad. During the Civil War, the city was a stronghold of support for the Union cause. Today, Cincinnati is a vibrant and diverse city known for its cultural attractions, including the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Cincinnati Zoo, and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. It also boasts a strong economy with a mix of industries including healthcare, manufacturing, and technology.
