Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Charlottesville, Virginia was founded in 1762 by Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, and James Madison, all of whom would later become U.S. Presidents. Originally called “Charlottes Ville” in honor of Queen Charlotte of England, the city quickly grew into a thriving cultural and political hub in the Virginia colony. During the American Civil War, Charlottesville became a key strategic point for both Confederate and Union forces. The city was the site of the University of Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson, which played a crucial role in the war effort and post-war Reconstruction period. In the 20th century, Charlottesville continued to flourish as a center of education, with the university expanding and attracting students and faculty from around the world. The city also gained fame as the home of the historic Monticello, the plantation estate of Thomas Jefferson. Today, Charlottesville is known for its vibrant arts scene, historic architecture, and bustling downtown district. It remains a popular destination for tourists and residents alike, offering a unique blend of history and modern amenities.
