Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Charlotte, North Carolina, was founded in 1768 and named in honor of Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the consort of King George III of England. Originally a small trading post along the Catawba River, Charlotte quickly grew into a bustling city due to its strategic location at the intersection of two major Native American trading paths. During the American Revolution, Charlotte played a key role as a major center for the production of goods and supplies for the Continental Army. In the 19th century, the discovery of gold nearby brought prosperity to the city and led to a population boom. By the mid-20th century, Charlotte had become a major financial center, earning the nickname “Wall Street of the South.” Today, the city is one of the fastest-growing in the United States, known for its vibrant arts scene, diverse culinary offerings, and thriving business community.
