Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Charlotte, North Carolina, originally known as Charlotte Town, was founded in 1768 by Thomas Polk. The city was named after Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the wife of King George III. During the American Revolution, Charlotte played a crucial role as the site of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence in 1775, which predates the national Declaration of Independence. The city continued to grow in the 19th century, becoming a major hub for gold mining and trading. In the early 20th century, Charlotte began to emerge as a prominent financial center with the establishment of banks and businesses. The city continued to grow rapidly, especially after the construction of interstate highways and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Today, Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and a major banking and financial center in the United States. It is also home to numerous cultural attractions, sports teams, and a diverse population.
