Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Cedar Rapids, Iowa was founded in 1838 by settlers looking to take advantage of the fertile lands along the Cedar River. Originally named Rapids City for the fast-flowing rapids on the river, the city quickly grew into a bustling hub of industry and commerce. By the late 19th century, Cedar Rapids had become known for its thriving milling and manufacturing industries, which attracted immigrants from all over Europe. The city continued to grow throughout the 20th century, becoming a center for agriculture, education, and technology. In 2008, Cedar Rapids was hit hard by a devastating flood that caused widespread damage to homes and businesses along the river. However, the city quickly rallied together to rebuild and recover, leading to a revitalization of downtown and a renewed sense of community spirit. Today, Cedar Rapids is a vibrant city with a rich history, diverse culture, and strong economy, making it a great place to live, work, and visit.
