Cedar Rapids, Iowa was founded in 1838 by settlers looking to take advantage of the abundant natural resources in the area, including the Cedar River which runs through the city. The city quickly grew into a bustling hub of industry, with lumber mills, flour mills, and factories popping up along the riverbanks. In the late 19th century, the city became known as the “City of Five Seasons” for its commitment to providing residents with an extra season of culture and recreation. Cedar Rapids continued to thrive throughout the 20th century, attracting businesses in manufacturing, food processing, and technology. The city also became known for its vibrant arts and cultural scene, with numerous theaters, galleries, and museums drawing visitors from near and far. Today, Cedar Rapids is a diverse and thriving community, known for its strong economy, quality of life, and commitment to sustainability.
