Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Canton, Ohio was founded in 1805 by Bezaleel Wells and Joseph H. Larwill, who purchased the land from the Connecticut Land Company. The city was originally named “Canton” after the Chinese city of the same name, but the name was later changed to honor President George Washington, who was often referred to as the “Father of His Country.” Throughout its history, Canton has been known for its manufacturing industry, particularly in the fields of steel, agricultural equipment, and glass production. The city experienced rapid growth during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, thanks in large part to the establishment of the Timken Company, a major steel manufacturer. Canton is also famous for being the birthplace of the National Football League (NFL), as the league was founded in the city in 1920. Today, Canton is home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which attracts thousands of visitors each year to celebrate the history of the sport.
