Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Brooklyn, New York, has a rich history that dates back to the early 17th century when the Dutch first settled in the area. Originally inhabited by Lenape Native Americans, the Dutch quickly built a trading post in what is now modern-day Brooklyn. Throughout the colonial period, Brooklyn grew as a vital port city and became a key player in the American Revolution. After the war, Brooklyn continued to thrive as an industrial center, attracting immigrants from around the world seeking opportunities in the bustling city. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Brooklyn experienced a population boom with the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge and various subway lines connecting the borough to Manhattan. This growth continued into the 20th century, with Brooklyn becoming a cultural hub known for its diverse neighborhoods, iconic landmarks, and vibrant arts scene. Today, Brooklyn is a thriving metropolis that continues to attract people from all walks of life with its unique charm and rich history.
The top 10 restaurants:
Ilis
Location: 150 Green St, Brooklyn, NY 11222
Ilis comes from Mads Refslund, a founder of Noma in Denmark, said to be “the world’s best restaurant.” The restaurant serves a tasting menu built around ingredients like eel and mushroom that costs $295 per person, and another $195 with a wine pairing. The decor and service are formal and dramatic, giving Ilis the feel of a restaurant after Michelin stars.
Sailor
Location: 228 Dekalb Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205
Sailor is chef April Bloomfield’s comeback after a fallout at the Spotted Pig. The new spot, a partnership with restaurateur Gabriel Stulman, has Bloomfield “at the top of her game,” according to critics. Reservations are booked out two weeks in advance, but the restaurant has seats set aside for walk-ins.
Margot
Location: 69 Lafayette Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11217
After losing its star chef, then switching things up, Margot has landed in a nice place. The Fort Greene restaurant serves comforting foods that aren’t too complicated, like spaghetti with clams and whole prawns. The large bottle list bounces between France and California, with options around $60.
Baron’s
Location: Bedford Stuyvesant
Baron’s is known for its great attentive service and a menu with slim but high-quality choices. It offers outdoor seating, delivery, and takeout options.
Soco
Location: Clinton Hill
Soco offers Cajun/Creole, Barbeque, and Soul Food in a moody atmosphere with interesting themed cocktails and decent drinks. It also provides outdoor seating and takeout options.
