Boise, Idaho, was originally inhabited by the Shoshone and Bannock Native American tribes before being settled by European-American fur trappers in the early 1800s. The city was officially founded in 1863 during the Gold Rush as a supply point for miners heading to the Idaho territory. Boise quickly grew into a thriving city, becoming the state capital in 1865. The completion of the Oregon Short Line Railroad in 1883 further accelerated Boise’s growth, making it a key transportation hub in the region. In the early 20th century, Boise became known for its agriculture and forestry industries, with the establishment of the Idaho State Capitol building in 1912 symbolizing the city’s importance in the state. Today, Boise is a vibrant city known for its outdoor recreational opportunities, with easy access to skiing, hiking, and biking. It also boasts a thriving arts and cultural scene, attracting visitors from around the country.
