Beaumont, Texas was founded in 1835 by Henry Millard, a wealthy businessman and land speculator. Originally a small trading post and port on the Neches River, Beaumont quickly grew in importance due to its strategic location near the Gulf of Mexico and its access to the expanding railroad network. The discovery of oil in the nearby Spindletop oil field in 1901 further propelled Beaumont’s growth, leading to a population boom and an economic boom. During World War II, Beaumont became a major center for shipbuilding and oil refining, contributing significantly to the war effort. In the post-war era, Beaumont continued to thrive as a hub for the petrochemical industry, attracting numerous refineries and chemical plants to the area. Today, Beaumont is a diverse and vibrant city known for its rich history, cultural attractions, and outdoor recreational opportunities. With a population of over 100,000, the city continues to be a major player in Texas’ economy and a popular destination for both residents and visitors.
