Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Founded in 1729, Baltimore, Maryland has a rich history that stretches back over 290 years. Originally settled by the Susquehannock Native American tribe, the area was later colonized by European settlers in the early 17th century. The city grew rapidly due to its strategic location on the Chesapeake Bay, becoming a major port and shipbuilding center in the 19th century. Baltimore played a key role in the American Revolution, serving as the site of the Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812. The famous defense of Fort McHenry inspired the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner, which later became the national anthem of the United States. Throughout the 20th century, Baltimore experienced periods of economic decline and urban decay, but has since undergone revitalization efforts, particularly in the Inner Harbor area. Today, Baltimore is known for its vibrant arts scene, historic neighborhoods, and diverse population.
