Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Bakersfield, California, has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. Originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, the area was later settled by Spanish explorers and missionaries in the late 1700s. The city was officially founded in 1869 by Colonel Thomas Baker, a local landowner and entrepreneur. With the discovery of oil in the early 20th century, Bakersfield quickly became a booming oil town, attracting workers and investors from all over the country. Throughout the years, Bakersfield has grown into a thriving agricultural and industrial center, known for its production of crops such as grapes, almonds, and citrus fruits. The city has also earned a reputation as a hub for country music, with artists like Buck Owens and Merle Haggard hailing from the area. Today, Bakersfield continues to be a vibrant and diverse community, blending its rich history with modern amenities and a strong sense of community pride.
