Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Located in the heart of Central Texas, Austin was originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Tonkawa and Comanche peoples. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the 1830s, led by Stephen F. Austin, for whom the city is named. By the 1840s, Austin had been chosen as the capital of the Republic of Texas. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Austin developed into a hub for education, culture, and government. The University of Texas was established in 1883, bringing a young and vibrant energy to the city. The state capitol building was completed in 1888, cementing Austin’s status as the political center of Texas. In the latter half of the 20th century, Austin experienced rapid growth and economic development. The tech industry boomed, earning the city the nickname “Silicon Hills.” Today, Austin is known for its vibrant music scene, thriving food culture, and outdoor recreation opportunities. With a unique blend of history and innovation, Austin continues to attract visitors and residents alike.
