Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Aurora, Colorado was founded in the 1880s as a small town with a focus on agriculture and mining. Originally named Fletcher, the town’s population grew steadily with the arrival of the railroad and the discovery of silver in the nearby mountains. The name was changed to Aurora in 1907, in honor of the Roman goddess of the dawn. During the 20th century, Aurora experienced rapid growth as a result of its strategic location near Denver and its proximity to major transportation routes. The city became known for its diverse population and vibrant cultural scene. In the 1990s, Aurora faced tragedy with the shooting at the Century 16 movie theater, but emerged stronger and more united as a community. Today, Aurora is a bustling city with a diverse economy that includes aerospace, healthcare, and technology industries. It is home to a vibrant arts and entertainment scene, numerous parks and outdoor recreational opportunities, and a strong sense of community pride.
