Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Originally inhabited by the Lenape Native American tribe, Atlantic City, New Jersey was founded in 1854 as a seaside resort town by Dr. Jonathan Pitney and was incorporated as a city in 1858. The construction of the Camden and Atlantic Railroad in the late 19th century helped turn Atlantic City into a major tourist destination, drawing visitors from all over the country with its luxurious hotels, boardwalk, and beaches. During the Prohibition era in the 1920s, Atlantic City became a hotspot for illegal alcohol trade and gambling, leading to a reputation as a city of vice. In the mid-20th century, the city declined in popularity as other gambling destinations opened up, but in 1976, the state of New Jersey legalized gambling in Atlantic City, revitalizing the economy. Today, Atlantic City is known for its bustling casinos, entertainment venues, and iconic boardwalk, attracting millions of visitors each year.
