Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

In the early 19th century, Atlanta was originally founded as a transportation hub due to its advantageous location at the intersection of multiple railroads. The city quickly grew in importance and population, becoming the capital of Georgia in 1868. During the American Civil War, Atlanta played a significant role as a crucial supply center for the Confederate Army. The city was targeted by Union forces and suffered greatly during the Battle of Atlanta in 1864. After the war, Atlanta underwent a period of reconstruction and modernization, leading to a rapid increase in industry and population. Throughout the 20th century, Atlanta continued to thrive as a major economic and cultural center in the southern United States. The city became known for its diverse population, thriving music scene, and hosting the 1996 Summer Olympics. Today, Atlanta is a bustling metropolis with a rich history and vibrant cultural heritage.
