Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Atlanta, Georgia, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1836. Originally called Terminus, the city was established as a transportation hub due to its strategic location at the intersection of several major railroads. As the railroads expanded, so did Atlanta, becoming the capital of Georgia in 1868. During the Civil War, Atlanta played a crucial role as a major Confederate supply center. The city was heavily damaged during General Sherman’s famous March to the Sea in 1864, but it quickly rebuilt and prospered in the post-war years. In the early 20th century, Atlanta became known as the “New South” for its progressive attitudes towards race relations and economic development. It was home to civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and played a pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement. Today, Atlanta is a thriving metropolis known for its diverse culture, booming economy, and world-class attractions such as the Georgia Aquarium and the Coca-Cola Museum.
