Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Asheville, North Carolina is a city steeped in history and rich in culture. The area that is now Asheville was originally inhabited by the Cherokee people before European settlers began to arrive in the late 1700s. The town was officially established in 1797 and named after Governor Samuel Ashe. Asheville quickly became a hub for trade, with its location along the French Broad River making it an ideal spot for commerce. The construction of the Western North Carolina Railroad in the 1870s further boosted the city’s growth and prosperity. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Asheville gained a reputation as a popular destination for health seekers due to its fresh mountain air and natural springs. The city’s popularity as a resort town led to the construction of grand hotels and luxurious estates, many of which still stand today. Today, Asheville is known for its vibrant arts scene, craft breweries, and stunning mountain views, making it a popular destination for tourists and a beloved home for its residents.
