Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Asheville has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. Originally inhabited by the Cherokee people, European settlers began to arrive in the late 1700s, establishing the town of Morristown. In 1797, the town was officially renamed Asheville in honor of North Carolina Governor Samuel Ashe. Throughout the 19th century, Asheville flourished as a hub for agriculture and commerce, becoming known for its tobacco and textile industries. The completion of the Western North Carolina Railroad in 1880 further bolstered the city’s economy, leading to a period of rapid growth and development. By the early 20th century, Asheville had become a popular destination for health and wellness tourism, with the opening of several sanitariums and resorts. The city’s stunning mountain scenery and mild climate attracted visitors seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. Today, Asheville is known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, bustling downtown area, and scenic outdoor attractions, making it a popular destination for tourists and residents alike.
