Ann Arbor, Michigan was founded in 1824 by John Allen and Elisha Rumsey, who named the city after their wives, both named Ann. Originally a small farming community, Ann Arbor quickly grew into a bustling town thanks to its prime location along the Huron River and proximity to the University of Michigan, which was established in 1837.
