Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Founded in 1824 by early settlers John Allen and Elisha Rumsey, Ann Arbor, Michigan, began as a small farming community nestled along the Huron River. The town quickly grew as a result of its strategic location along the bustling Michigan Central Railroad, which connected Detroit to Chicago. In the late 19th century, the University of Michigan was established, transforming Ann Arbor into a prominent academic hub and driving further growth and development. Throughout the 20th century, Ann Arbor became known for its progressive and innovative spirit, with a thriving arts and music scene, a strong tradition of activism and social justice, and a reputation as a center of research and technological innovation.
