Welcome to the Newto News for December of 2024. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Amarillo, Texas was founded in the late 19th century as a railroad town along the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway. The city quickly grew in size and population due to its strategic location as a major cattle shipping point and agricultural center. By the early 20th century, Amarillo had become one of the largest cities in the Texas Panhandle. In the 1920s, the discovery of oil in the surrounding areas brought even more prosperity to Amarillo. The city’s economy boomed, attracting new residents and businesses. By the 1950s, Amarillo was known as the “Helium Capital of the World” due to its abundant helium reserves. Today, Amarillo is a thriving hub for the oil and gas industry, as well as a center for agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare. The city is also a popular tourist destination, known for its historic Route 66 attractions, Palo Duro Canyon State Park, and diverse arts and cultural scene. Amarillo continues to grow and evolve, while still honoring its rich history as a vital economic and cultural center in the Texas Panhandle.
