Tyler, Texas was founded in 1846 by a group of settlers led by John R. Jones and named after President John Tyler. The city quickly grew into a thriving community due to its prime location along the newly constructed railroad lines. In the late 19th century, Tyler became known for its booming rose industry, earning it the nickname “Rose Capital of America.” The city’s annual Texas Rose Festival continues to celebrate this rich history. Throughout the years, Tyler has also played a significant role in the state’s education system, with the establishment of Tyler Junior College in 1926 and the University of Texas at Tyler in 1971. Today, Tyler is a lively and diverse city known for its charming downtown district, cultural attractions, and strong sense of community. With a population of over 100,000 residents, the city continues to thrive as a hub for education, healthcare, and economic growth in East Texas.
