Boise, Idaho, originally inhabited by the Shoshone and Bannock tribes, was founded in the 1830s as a supply and trading post for settlers on the Oregon Trail. The city’s name is derived from the French word for “wooded” or “forest,” reflecting the lush surroundings of the area. Boise quickly grew in importance as a center for agriculture and mining, with the discovery of gold in the nearby Boise Basin in the 1860s leading to a population boom. The completion of the Oregon Short Line Railroad in 1883 further fueled the city’s growth. In the early 20th century, Boise became known for its thriving timber industry and as a hub for government and business in the region. The city also played a significant role in the construction of the Hoover Dam during the Great Depression. Today, Boise is a vibrant and diverse city known for its outdoor recreation opportunities, vibrant arts scene, and strong economy driven by technology and innovation.
