Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1753. The city was created when two separate towns, Winston and Salem, merged to form one community. Winston was named after Revolutionary War hero, Joseph Winston, while Salem was a Moravian settlement with strong religious roots.
