Welcome to the Newto News for July of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Winston-Salem, North Carolina was created through the merger of two cities in 1913—Winston and Salem. Winston was originally founded in 1849 as the county seat of Forsyth County, while Salem was established in 1766 as a Moravian settlement. The Moravians, a Protestant denomination known for their craftsmanship and strong community values, played a significant role in shaping the early development of Salem. The town became known for its thriving agricultural and trade industries, as well as its dedication to education and cultural enrichment. Winston, on the other hand, was a bustling industrial town known for its tobacco and textile manufacturing. With the merger of these two cities, Winston-Salem became a hub of innovation and progress, attracting new industries and businesses to the area. Today, Winston-Salem is a vibrant city known for its rich history, diverse culture, and strong sense of community. It continues to thrive as a center for arts, education, and economic development.
