Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Wilmington, Delaware, founded in 1638 by Swedish settlers, has a rich history dating back over 380 years. Originally named “Willington” after Thomas Willing, a landowner in the area, the city quickly grew into a bustling port town due to its strategic location near the Delaware River. In the 18th century, Wilmington became a key hub for shipbuilding, trade, and manufacturing, particularly in the textile industry. During the American Revolution, Wilmington played a crucial role as a vital supply center and base for American troops. The city continued to thrive in the 19th and 20th centuries, with the expansion of its industrial base and the establishment of corporations such as DuPont and Wilmington Trust. Today, Wilmington is a vibrant city known for its cultural attractions, beautiful architecture, and strong sense of community. It remains a key economic center in Delaware and continues to attract visitors from near and far.
