Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Wilmington, Delaware was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native American tribe before being settled by the Dutch in the early 17th century. The city was officially founded in 1638 by Swedish settlers, becoming an important trading hub due to its prime location along the Delaware River. Throughout its history, Wilmington has played a significant role in American industry and commerce. It was a major shipbuilding center in the 19th century, producing many vessels for the Union Navy during the Civil War. The city also became known for its manufacturing industry, producing textiles, machinery, and chemicals. In the 20th century, Wilmington’s economy shifted towards finance and banking, with many major corporations, including DuPont and MBNA, establishing headquarters in the city. Today, Wilmington is a vibrant city with a diverse population and a rich cultural scene. It continues to thrive as a center for business, education, and the arts in the Mid-Atlantic region.
