Welcome to the Newto News for July of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Washington, D.C. was founded in 1790 as the capital of the United States. Named after the first President, George Washington, the city was chosen for its central location between the North and South, symbolizing the unity of the new nation. Designed by French architect Pierre Charles L’Enfant, Washington, D.C. was laid out in a grid pattern with grand avenues and public spaces. Throughout its history, Washington, D.C. has been the site of many significant events, including the burning of the White House during the War of 1812, the Civil Rights March on Washington in 1963, and the inauguration of the first African American President, Barack Obama, in 2009. The city is also home to many iconic landmarks such as the Capitol Building, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Washington Monument. Today, Washington, D.C. is a bustling metropolis with a diverse population and a rich cultural heritage. It continues to be a symbol of democracy and freedom for the United States and the world.
