Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Waco, Texas, founded in 1849, has a rich history that encompasses both triumphs and tragedies. Originally established as a trading post on the banks of the Brazos River, Waco quickly grew into a prominent center of commerce and industry in Central Texas. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the city became known for its bustling cotton industry and as a key transportation hub, with the intersection of major railroad lines. However, Waco also experienced its fair share of hardships, including the devastating tornado of 1953 and the deadly Branch Davidian standoff in 1993. Despite these challenges, Waco has persevered and evolved into a vibrant city known for its southern charm, historic architecture, and thriving arts and culture scene. Today, Waco is perhaps best known for being the home of Baylor University and the popular HGTV show “Fixer Upper” featuring Chip and Joanna Gaines.
