Welcome to the Newto News for March of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Originally inhabited by the Chumash Native American tribe, Ventura, California was first explored by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. In 1782, the Spanish founded Mission San Buenaventura, around which the city began to develop. Throughout the 19th century, Ventura grew as a center for agriculture and trade, with crops such as olives, citrus fruits, and walnuts becoming major exports. The arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad in the late 19th century further spurred the city’s growth, making it a hub for transportation and commerce. In the early 20th century, Ventura became known for its oil industry, as numerous oil wells were drilled in the surrounding area. The city also attracted tourists with its beautiful beaches and mild climate. Today, Ventura is a vibrant coastal city with a diverse economy that includes agriculture, tourism, technology, and healthcare. Its historic downtown area, cultural attractions, and outdoor recreational opportunities continue to draw visitors and residents alike.
