Welcome to the Newto News for June of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Ventura, California, originally known as San Buenaventura, has a rich and storied history dating back to the Chumash Native American tribe who were the original inhabitants of the area. In 1782, Father Junipero Serra founded Mission San Buenaventura, which became the ninth Spanish mission in California and served as a hub of religious and cultural activity. By the mid-19th century, Ventura had transformed into a bustling agricultural community, known for its thriving citrus industry and fertile farmland. The arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1887 further spurred growth and development in the town. In the 20th century, Ventura experienced a population boom as more people flocked to the area seeking its idyllic coastal climate and picturesque beaches. Today, Ventura is a vibrant city with a diverse population and a strong sense of community pride. It is known for its charming downtown area, beautiful beaches, and outdoor recreational opportunities, making it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.
