Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Ventura, California, originally inhabited by the indigenous Chumash tribe, was first encountered by Spanish explorers in the 16thcentury. In the late 18th century, the area was colonized by the Spanish and later became part of Mexico following its independence from Spain. In 1852, Ventura was incorporated as a city in the newly established state of California. Ventura’s economy initially thrived on agriculture, particularly citrus and oil production. The city also played a key role in the development of the oil industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In the mid-20th century, Ventura experienced significant growth and urban development, becoming a popular destination for tourism, due to its picturesque beaches and Mediterranean climate. Today, Ventura remains a vibrant coastal city with a diverse economy that includes agriculture, tourism, and technology. Its rich history and picturesque surroundings continue to attract visitors and residents alike.
