Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Ventura, California, originally inhabited by the Chumash Native American tribe, was first explored by Spanish missionaries in the 18th century. In 1782, Father Junipero Serra founded Mission San Buenaventura, which would become a focal point for the region’s development. The city experienced rapid growth during the California Gold Rush of the 1850s as settlers were drawn to the area’s fertile land and natural harbor. Ventura soon became a hub for agriculture, with citrus fruits, walnuts, and oil becoming major industries. In the early 20th century, Ventura transformed into a popular beach destination, attracting tourists with its beautiful coastline and pleasant climate. The city’s economy diversified with the establishment of naval bases and aerospace companies during World War II. Today, Ventura is known for its vibrant arts community, outdoor recreational activities, and historic downtown district. Its rich history and scenic beauty continue to make it a popular destination for visitors and residents alike.
