Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Ventura, California, originally inhabited by the Chumash Native American tribe, was first explored by Spanish missionaries in the late 18th century. In 1782, the Mission San Buenaventura was established by Father Junipero Serra, giving rise to the city’s name. Throughout the 19th century, Ventura grew as a thriving agricultural community, known for its citrus orchards and booming oil industry. In the early 20th century, Ventura became a popular destination for beachgoers and tourists, thanks to its beautiful coastline and Mediterranean-like climate. The city experienced further growth with the completion of Highway 101 in the 1950s, connecting it to Los Angeles and other major cities in Southern California. Today, Ventura is a vibrant coastal city known for its charming downtown area, historic architecture, and outdoor recreational opportunities. The city continues to attract visitors with its laid-back atmosphere, cultural events, and stunning natural beauty.
