Ventura, California, originally inhabited by the Chumash Native American tribe, was first explored by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. In 1782, Father Junipero Serra founded Mission San Buenaventura in the area, which eventually grew into a bustling settlement known as San Buenaventura. Throughout the 19th century, the city experienced growth due to its fertile land for agriculture and its strategic location along the coast. The discovery of oil in the early 20th century further fueled growth and development in Ventura. During World War II, Ventura served as a significant military hub, hosting a naval air station and contributing to the war effort.
