Welcome to the Newto News for August of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Ventura, California, originally inhabited by the Chumash Native American tribe, was first explored by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. In 1782, Father Junipero Serra founded Mission San Buenaventura in the area, which eventually grew into a bustling settlement known as San Buenaventura. Throughout the 19th century, the city experienced growth due to its fertile land for agriculture and its strategic location along the coast. The discovery of oil in the early 20th century further fueled growth and development in Ventura. During World War II, Ventura served as a significant military hub, hosting a naval air station and contributing to the war effort. In the post-war era, Ventura continued to thrive as a coastal city with a strong economy based on agriculture, oil, and tourism. Today, Ventura is a vibrant community known for its beautiful beaches, historic downtown area, and outdoor recreational opportunities.
