Welcome to the Newto News for May of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Tyler, Texas was founded in 1846 by John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States. Originally a center for the farming and timber industries, the city quickly grew in population and economic importance. During the Civil War, Tyler served as a Confederate hub for supplies and communication. After the war, the city rebounded and saw a boom in growth with the arrival of the railroad in the late 1800s. In the early 20th century, Tyler became known for its rose cultivation, earning the nickname “Rose Capital of America.” The city’s annual Rose Festival, first held in 1933, continues to draw visitors from around the country. Today, Tyler is a thriving city with a diverse economy that includes healthcare, education, and manufacturing. It is known for its charming downtown area, historic architecture, and vibrant arts scene. Tyler remains a place where history and modernity intersect, making it a unique and beloved destination in Texas.
