Welcome to the Newto News for January of 2026. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Founded in 1846, Tyler, Texas was named after President John Tyler and quickly became a hub for the local timber industry. The city grew rapidly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, attracting settlers with its fertile land and booming economy. In the late 1930s, Tyler experienced a significant economic boom with the discovery of oil in the nearby East Texas Oil Field, leading to a new wave of growth and prosperity. The city became known as the “Rose Capital of America” due to its thriving rose industry, which continues to this day with the annual Texas Rose Festival. Throughout the years, Tyler has also become a center for education and healthcare, with institutions such as the University of Texas at Tyler and the East Texas Medical Center contributing to its reputation as a regional hub for knowledge and wellness. Today, Tyler remains a vibrant and welcoming city, with a rich history and a diverse community that continues to shape its bright future.
