Tyler, Texas was founded in 1846 by John Neely Bryan, a lawyer and land speculator. The city was named after President John Tyler and quickly became a hub for trade and commerce in East Texas. During the Civil War, Tyler was a major supplier of goods and materials to the Confederate army. After the war, the city experienced rapid growth, attracting settlers from all over the country seeking new opportunities in the burgeoning oil and cotton industries. In the early 20th century, Tyler experienced a boom in population and development with the discovery of the East Texas oil fields. The city became known for its thriving oil industry and agricultural production. Today, Tyler is a vibrant city known for its historic downtown district, beautiful rose gardens, and strong sense of community. It continues to be a center for education, healthcare, and economic growth in East Texas.
