Tyler, Texas was founded in 1846 by John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States. The city was originally named Bois d’Arc, after the dense woodlands that surrounded the area. In 1850, the city was officially renamed Tyler in honor of its founder. During the Civil War, Tyler served as a major Confederate hub for manufacturing and supply operations. The city’s population boomed as a result, and it quickly became an important regional center for trade and commerce. In the late 19th century, Tyler experienced significant growth with the discovery of oil in the nearby East Texas oil fields. This led to the development of a prosperous oil industry in the area, further solidifying Tyler’s status as an economic powerhouse in the region. Today, Tyler is known for its vibrant culture, beautiful rose gardens, and strong sense of community. The city continues to thrive as a hub for education, healthcare, and economic development in East Texas.
