Welcome to the Newto News for February of 2025. My name is Zack Cockfield, and my team and I created Newtomedia as a way for visitors or new residents to get information about a city. Each month we bring together resources that will update you on the history, amenities, culture, future opportunities and all other things inside a city that make it unique. We also hope to be a resource for connecting you with people and businesses that can help you live a better life. If you find our efforts useful, please click on the links to get more information!

Tuscaloosa, Alabama was founded in 1819 and named after the chief Tuskaloosa of a Muskogean-speaking people. The city quickly grew into a bustling town with the establishment of the University of Alabama in 1831, becoming a center of education and culture in the region. Tuscaloosa played a significant role in the Civil War, serving as a strategic military hub for the Confederate Army. The city was also heavily impacted by the devastating tornado of 2011, which caused widespread destruction and loss of life. Despite these challenges, Tuscaloosa has persevered and emerged as a vibrant community known for its rich history, Southern charm, and strong sense of community. Today, the city is home to a diverse population, thriving industries, and a thriving arts scene. Tuscaloosa continues to grow and evolve, while still honoring its past and traditions.
